My own browser Flash plugin for example has this setting set (hardware acceleration enabled), and the test at the Adobe web site works for me, as do all Flash videos. Then you can update Adobe Flash, and it will remember that you have disabled this process, and you will be fine with the latest firefox and flash updates (so far). This problem was driving me nuts; my laptop is only about 3 years old and I did not see this issue at all on an 8 year old PC even though That it happens on multiple PC's practically excludes hardware. I've been on line and tried different fixes.
