How to fix: restart the computer and then reconnect the external hard drive to check if the real files are shown. Should I change the parition type to just Primary? (It is Primary Bootable - 1 * HPFS - NTFS) Thanks! If the drive does work on other computers — or you don’t have another computer around to test this with — Windows may be having a driver problem with the drive. I can see the drive in windows, but GSmartControl shows an error message (cannot retrieve SMART data) and HDDScan does not allow me to select SMART for the drive.

SanDisk Extrem pro 240GB SSD was recognized by the hardware but not by the OS. That may fix it and make everything work fine but there is a chance that it could make things worse and you won't be able to recover the data at all. There is no physical damage to the drive. check over here Sad.
