They must be in the same workgroup and have compatible network sharing settings but if you pay a bit of attention it should work fine.
It is only when I do this that my XP machine sees the printer and allows me to print. However I am still trying to connect my win7 laptop to my WinXP printer. I don´t see any folder. So they would only be able to View or listen to the specified files or media.
